IRGC Navy Chief: Iran Has Safeguarded, Not Sought to Close, The Strait of Hormuz

ALWAGHT- The IRGC Navy commander called the Strait of Hormuz the “world’s vital oil and gas artery,” emphasizing that Iran has always safeguarded its security and never sought to disrupt or shut it down.

Rear Admiral Alireza Tangsiri highlighted the crucial role of the Strait of Hormuz in global energy supplies, warning against the “unregulated” presence of foreign powers and nuclear-powered vessels in the area. He stressed that Iran has always ensured the security of this vital waterway and never sought its closure, questioning the fairness of the world benefiting from it while Iran faces export restrictions.

Tangsiri explained that any decision to open or close the strait rests with Iran’s top leadership and depends on the level of pressure on the country’s oil exports. He criticized the ongoing military presence of foreign forces, accusing them of deliberately stirring tensions to justify their deployment in the region.

Reaffirming Iran’s defensive stance, Tangsiri stated that the Islamic Republic has not attacked any nation in over three centuries and will only respond when provoked. He praised the vigilance of Iranian forces in the Persian Gulf, vowing they would defend national interests “until their last breath,” and referenced Iran’s steadfast response during the recent 12-day Israeli aggression.

Marking IRGC Navy Day, Major General Mohammad Pakpour also warned that any hostile move in the Persian Gulf or the Strait of Hormuz would be met with a severe response. As one of the world’s most important oil transit routes, the Strait of Hormuz sees over 17 million barrels pass through daily. Iran’s naval forces have since strengthened their capabilities, achieving self-sufficiency in shipbuilding, conducting joint drills, and contributing to global anti-piracy and maritime security efforts.
