Iran and Armenia signed 10 memoranda of understanding (MoUs) during Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian’s state visit to Yerevan, aiming to expand cooperation across multiple sectors, including diplomacy, economy, healthcare, education, tourism, and infrastructure. The agreements were finalized following a private meeting with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and accompanied by a joint statement emphasizing mutual partnership.
During the visit, Pezeshkian participated in an official reception and met with Armenia-based Iranians, Iranologists, and business leaders. The trip was part of Tehran’s broader strategy to strengthen ties with neighboring countries that share aligned foreign policy interests, highlighting the importance of bilateral engagement across political, economic, and cultural fields.
The visit took place shortly after a US-mediated peace deal between Armenia and Azerbaijan, which included plans for a new transit road. While Iran welcomed regional peace, it expressed concerns over foreign intervention and emphasized the need to respect sovereignty and territorial integrity. The MoUs signal Iran and Armenia’s intent to deepen cooperation while carefully navigating sensitive regional dynamics.
