Iran to Europe: No Snapback, Defense Off Limits

ALWAGHT- Esmaeil Baghaei, spokesperson for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, rejected moves by the UK, France, and Germany to revive UN sanctions on Tehran, arguing they have no legal basis.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei firmly rejected efforts by the UK, France, and Germany to trigger the snapback mechanism and reinstate UN sanctions. He argued the trio had forfeited their rights under the 2015 nuclear deal by supporting Israel and the US in what he described as an unprovoked war on Iran. Baghaei warned that Iran would respond if sanctions were reimposed, even suggesting withdrawal from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.

Baghaei stated that Iran’s cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) continues within safeguard agreements, with an agency visit planned soon. However, he made it clear that Iran’s missile program and regional influence are off the table, calling such European demands irrelevant and a sign of diplomatic confusion. He credited Iran’s defense capabilities for successfully withstanding recent Israeli-American aggression and emphasized they are non-negotiable.

On the Gaza crisis, Baghaei denounced Israel’s ongoing assault as a genocidal campaign and criticized Western countries for their hypocrisy—especially France, which he accused of destroying conditions for Palestinian statehood while claiming to support it. He announced Iran’s efforts to convene an emergency Islamic summit. Baghaei also linked a recent terrorist attack in Zahedan to Israeli operations aimed at destabilizing Iran, saying Tel Aviv would use any means to spread insecurity.
