ALWAGHT- The Iranian ambassador to the UN dismissed the US president's accusations that Iran supports Yemeni forces, warning Washington that it would be fully responsible for the severe consequences of any aggression against Tehran.
On March 17, Saeed Iravani, Iran's ambassador to the UN, sent a letter to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and the UN Security Council President Christina Markus Lassen, condemning recent US accusations against Iran. He expressed concern over the US's unlawful justification for its actions in Yemen, including baseless claims about Iran’s support for Yemeni forces. Iravani emphasized that such rhetoric violated international law, particularly the UN Charter, and warned the US that any aggression against Iran would have severe consequences.
In the letter, Iravani called on the UN Security Council to denounce the US's provocative statements and hold the US accountable for its actions, which he argued set a dangerous precedent. He reiterated that Iran would defend its sovereignty and national interests under international law if threatened, warning that the US would bear full responsibility for any hostile actions.
Iran also strongly condemned the recent US and UK military aggression against Yemen, asserting that these actions violated Yemen's sovereignty and international law. Iravani rejected accusations of Iran’s involvement in destabilizing activities in the region, particularly in Yemen, and criticized the US, UK, and France for their false claims. He argued that these countries were attempting to distract from their complicity in Israeli war crimes against Palestinians in Gaza.
