ALWAGHT- The UN Security Council condemned Syrian ruler Ahmed al-Shara (Julani)'s government for its attacks and violence against the country's Alawites.
The joint statement, initiated by Russia and the United States, explicitly condemns the Syrian authorities for mass killings of Alawites and Christians.
The UN Security Council strongly denounces the widespread violence, including civilian deaths, in Syria’s Latakia and Tartus provinces. It emphasizes that the interim Syrian government must ensure the protection of all citizens, regardless of ethnicity or religion.
Alawites, or Alawis, are an Arab ethnoreligious group primarily residing in the Levant region of West Asia and following Alawism.
