ALWAGHT- Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that Tehran will not engage in any negotiations with the US over its nuclear program as long as the Trump administration continues its 'maximum pressure' policy.
Iran has stated that it will continue negotiations with other signatories of the JCPOA, including European nations, Russia, and China, but will not engage in direct talks with the US as long as Washington maintains its "maximum pressure" policy. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi emphasized that Iran will resist US pressure and will only consider negotiations based on mutual respect and fairness. He also noted that other countries involved in nuclear discussions could convey Iran’s position to the US.
Regarding Israel’s threats against Iran’s nuclear program, Araghchi dismissed the possibility of a successful military attack, citing Iran’s advanced technology, well-protected facilities, and strong retaliatory capabilities. He warned that any military action against Iran would trigger a proportional response and could escalate into a wider regional conflict. He also suggested that Israel’s aggressive stance was an attempt to draw the US into a war in the region, which would be highly risky for Washington.
On regional issues, Araghchi rejected Turkey’s accusations that Iran destabilizes other countries through militias, pointing out that Turkey and other actors have significantly influenced Syria’s ongoing crisis. He reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to Syria’s stability, territorial integrity, and the formation of an inclusive government. While Iran currently has no official ties with the Syrian government, it hopes for future developments that lead to peace and the withdrawal of foreign forces from Syrian territory.
