ALWAGHT- The Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman stressed that sanctions imposed without the approval of the UN Security Council, including those on Iran, Russia, or any other nation, are illegal.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated that sanctions imposed without the approval of the UN Security Council are illegal, including those against Iran, Russia, or any other country. In an interview with Izvestia on Tuesday, she emphasized that Moscow’s response to all such sanctions is the same—they are illegitimate and unlawful.
Zakharova pointed out that both Russia and Iran share this view, and their stance has been proven correct through experience. She reiterated this position in a separate statement, noting that the so-called "snapback" mechanism for reinstating UN sanctions on Iran was intended to address situations where Iran violates the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
She also criticized the UK, France, and Germany (the E3), stating they do not have the authority to reimpose sanctions on Iran since they have failed to fulfill the obligations under UN Security Council Resolution 2231, which underpins the nuclear deal with Tehran.
