ALWAGHT- The chairman of the Gevurah Forum, representing families of Israeli soldiers killed in the Tel Aviv regime's genocidal war on Gaza, told Hebrew-language 103FM radio that a potential Gaza ceasefire agreement would be "a complete failure" for the Zionist entity.
Yehoshua Shani, the chairman of the Gevurah Forum and father of a soldier killed during the October 2023 Hamas operation, expressed his disapproval of an emerging Gaza ceasefire deal. In an interview, Shani labeled the deal "a complete failure" for Israel, criticizing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for allegedly succumbing to pressure from then-US President Donald Trump. Shani felt Netanyahu could not stand up to Trump's influence, despite previously claiming opposition to the deal in private meetings. He also warned that the deal could leave 70 hostages in jeopardy, comparing them to an Israeli airman captured by Hezbollah in the 1980s.
Shani further criticized the Israeli military’s handling of the war, claiming the ongoing operation in Gaza was leading to unnecessary casualties. He expressed frustration with Netanyahu and the military leadership, accusing them of failing to replace ineffective commanders, resulting in continued loss of Israeli soldiers' lives. The Gevurah Forum's opposition to the ceasefire was also echoed by Israeli far-right Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, who called the deal a "surrender deal" for Hamas and demanded that Israel's Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich resign if the ceasefire went through.
In the broader geopolitical context, US President Joe Biden confirmed that efforts were underway to finalize a Gaza ceasefire, stating that a deal could be reached within the week. Biden expressed his persistence in pushing for the ceasefire, despite ongoing Israeli military action in Gaza. The Biden administration and the incoming Trump administration were reported to be working together to secure the deal, with Biden emphasizing the importance of not giving up on the negotiations.
The situation remains dire in Gaza, with Israel's military offensive causing significant casualties, including at least 46,584 Palestinian deaths and over 109,000 injuries. The International Criminal Court (ICC) has issued arrest warrants for Israeli leaders for war crimes in Gaza, and Israel is facing a genocide case at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in connection with its actions during the war.
