Arrangements Completed for Iranians Voting Overseas

ALWAGHT- The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran has organized provisions for Iranian expatriates to participate in the forthcoming presidential election, according to the ministry’s spokesman.

During a press conference on Wednesday, Nasser Kanaani announced that the Foreign Ministry has made comprehensive arrangements to facilitate Iranian expatriates' participation in the upcoming presidential election abroad.

He mentioned that ballot papers have already been dispatched to polling stations overseas, with the election scheduled for Friday.

Kanaani also highlighted "formal coordination" with Saudi authorities to ensure that Iranian Hajj pilgrims can vote in the presidential election.

Earlier on Wednesday, Iranian Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi commented that Saudi Arabia has not yet cooperated with Iran regarding the Hajj pilgrims' participation in voting. As a contingency, the Interior Ministry has developed an alternative plan, pending approval from the Constitutional Council.

Vahidi added that over 61 million people are eligible to vote in the elections on Friday.

Iran will hold a nationwide presidential election on June 28, a year earlier than planned, due to the demise of President Ebrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash on May 19.

In a statement on Tuesday, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei highlighted that national pride in the election’s hinges on broad public participation and electing the most capable candidate.

"The reason for stressing the importance of maximum participation in the elections is that a high voter turnout bestows honor upon the Islamic Republic," the Leader said.
