Alwaght- The domestically-developed air defense system, Arman, that was unveiled by Tehran on Thursday along with anpther one, Azarakhsh، can be operationalized in less than three minutes, according to Iranian Defense Minister General Mohammad Reza Ashtiani.
"This system is very agile and ready for operation in less than 3 minutes. This system provides a reliable cover to defend the country's atmosphere," he said.
The intercepor, named after Martyr Arman Aliverdi, covers a range of 180 kilometers and can engage the target from 120 kilometers.
The system was unveiled as part of the country's unceasing efforts towards defense self-reliance.
On the sidelines of the unveiling of the two air defense systems, the commander of the Security Supply Base of the Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces Logistics General Shahrukh Shahram said: "The Arman defense system was designed according to the experience of holy defense and modern wars today, therefore it is self-protective, agile and with special capabilities to prepare for the operation in less than three minutes."
He added that this system is one of most updated systems in the world and the armed forces can protect the country even more effectively using it.
For his part, General Ahmad Sadeghnejad, the air defense affairs advisor to the defense minister, said that Arman air defense system is "highly strategic and can engage ballistic and cruise missiles. It uses the vertically-launched Sayyad 3F missiles."
Iran has been developing its missile and drone capabilities in recent years. It is now among the top military drone makers.
Last week, Tehran unveiled an updated version of its Shahed-238 kamikaze drone, saying that the new version has longer range and more precision. It is also described as more difficult to detect.
