According to The Washington Post, in the aftermath of its setback against Yemeni forces in the Red Sea, the United States is getting ready for a continuous and relentless bombardment in Yemen.
According to unnamed officials cited by The Washington Post, the United States is said to be readying for continuous operations in Yemen with the aim of diminishing the Yemeni military's ability to target shipping in the Red Sea.
These sources maintain that the U.S. is not seeking a prolonged engagement. As per The Washington Post, the Biden administration is not expecting an extended operation akin to the invasions of Iraq or Afghanistan. Nevertheless, it is unable to outline a specific timeframe or schedule for weakening the military capabilities of the Yemeni forces.
Sources informed and cited by The Washington Post assert that Washington's plan is to limit the capabilities of Ansarullah in targeting ships along Yemen's coast, or at least establish secure conditions for shipping companies to continue their passage through the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.
In response to the aggressive actions of the Zionist regime against the Gaza Strip and the brutal oppression of the Palestinian people, the Yemeni forces have undertaken numerous drone and missile attacks on ships associated with or owned by Israel traversing the Red Sea in recent months. The Yemeni forces have also committed to retaliating against the recent assaults carried out by the United States and the United Kingdom on targets in Yemen.
A source, speaking to The Washington Post, stated, "We are familiar with the identity and approach of the Yemeni forces. Hence, it's uncertain if they plan to halt the attacks immediately, but our goal is unquestionably to weaken their capabilities and neutralize them."
A knowledgeable diplomat emphasized, "Washington has no intention of defeating the Yemeni forces or launching an attack on Yemen. Rather, the aim is to reduce their ability to sustain such attacks. This involves targeting the infrastructure facilitating their assaults. Furthermore, dismantling their more advanced capabilities is also part of Washington's strategy."
According to these sources, Biden has authorized the Yemen attack not due to economic motives but ideological ones, aiming to uphold Washington's global standing as a power.
The Washington Post, voicing apprehensions about the potential bombing of Yemen, commented: This move presents a major impediment to Biden's stated objective of preventing the Gaza conflict from spreading to other areas in the Middle East. Additionally, ongoing operations could shift Washington's priorities, refocusing U.S. foreign policy efforts on Russia and China.
