Militants Planning False Flag Gas Attack in Syria’s Idlib: Russia

Idlib Set To Be The Heart Of Syrian Conflict Afresh

Alwaght- The terrorist groups that for years have been restricted to Idlib province and devoid of the past power to deal blows to the Syrian army now make suspicious moves that indicate their preparation for attacks on the Syrian military and its allies’ positions.

Russian officials in recent weeks repeatedly warned that Idlib-based terrorists led by Nusra Front are considering attacks on the Russian-operated Hmeimim Air Base in Latakia province. What is significant about the possible attacks is the new weapons the Takfiri terrorists have procured.

A Russian military official said that according to terrorists’ calculations, use of a large number of suicide drones, or kamikazes, can disrupt the performance of the Russian air defenses and enable strikes on the air base.

Terrorists have recently carried out attacks on Syrian army forces using suicide drones, though they were unsuccessful and the Syrian forces managed to shoot down them before striking their targets. There is a question here: What is the origin of this large number of drones provided to the terrorists?

The US footprints

It can be a source of debate that how the terrorist procured these suicide drones. Some foreign sides seem to have increased their activities in Syria in favor of terrorists. Undoubtedly, the terrorists do not have the ability and technology to build such drones in Idlib, and it is very likely that the US has stepped in again to test its chances for reversing its past defeats.

Losing the confrontation to Russia in Ukraine so far, the US is trying to reactivate the Syrian fronts to raise Moscow's costs.

Since 2011, Syria was the wrestling ground of the West and Russia, but the efforts of the enemies to overthrow the government in Damascus went nowhere. After Ukraine campaign, Russia decreased its presence in Syria and now the US is trying to reignite war in the Arab country to deal blows to the Russians. The West thinks that the intensification of tensions in Syria causes Russia to withdraw part of its forces from Ukraine and go to Syria in order to ward off terrorist threats, and this is a good opportunity for the West to make progress on the Ukrainian front. The movements of the terrorists in Syria are focused on areas where the Russians are stationed. Actually, Nusra Front and other terrorist groups are seeking to attack the Hmeimim base to flex their muscles to Russia that has been bombing their positions in Idlib in recent months.

Washington has never been disappointed to use the leverage of terrorists to put pressure on Damascus at the negotiating table and has always taken into account these groups. Therefore, it seems that it has provided suicide drones to them so that they can use them on the battlegrounds and achieve success.

The suicide drones that are in the hands of terrorists have advanced technologies and many countries in the world, even some Western countries, are unable to manufacture them. This is not the first time that terrorists are armed with advanced technologies, and a few years ago some Russian sources announced that hundreds of drones were sent to terrorist groups through the Turkish border to be used against the resistance forces—an alliance assisting the Syrian government to battle a litany of foreign-backed terrorists. Now, suicide drones are provided to these groups, and this time it is Washington to blame, as it continues its warmongering after eleven years of devastating Syrian crisis.

There is another reason for the tension-making American moves. The US has occupied the Syrian oil fields for several years and exported millions of barrels of oil illegally, and in recent months, the theft of Syrian oil has increased, and dozens of tankers leave Syria for foreign markets every day.

Due to the energy crisis caused by the Ukraine war, the West is in desperate need for oil and gas, and meanwhile, the Syrian resources can meet part of this need to some extent. In fact, to comfortably plunder the country's oil, the US needs to destabilize Syria again and distract the Syrian attention from retaking oilfields to fighting terrorists.

Tel Aviv’s new game

In addition to the US, the Israeli regime feels threatened from the return of security and stability to Syria and Syrian army rebuilding its power and, so, tries to reactivate the terrorists in the Arab country to re-involve Damascus in home battles and distract its attention from the borders of the occupied territories. Tel Aviv is one of the biggest manufacturers of kamikazes that are so far involved in many conflicts across the world.

The Israeli regime tried to topple the government of President Bashar al-Assad to separate Syria as a major wing from the Axis of Resistance, an alliance led by Iran and including Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, Yemen, and Palestine, and guarantee its borders. So, it is concerned to see Syria regaining its power and, so, Tel Aviv is resorting to the terrorists. Over the past year, the Syrian army held independent military drills or jointly with Russia to improve its readiness. And recently, Syrian officials warned that the Israelis would pay the cost for their attacks on Syria— a threat grabbing the calm from Tel Aviv leaders.

That why the Israelis are restoring to the terrorists has to do with re-establishment of Damascus relations with Palestinian groups. Israeli leaders are worried about closeness between Syrian government and Gaza-based Hamas. They seem to intend to destabilize Syria to disallow power gain of the resistance forces around the occupied territories.

On the other hand, Syrian threats are directed to the occupied Golan Heights. The Israelis have had a strong military presence in the occupied Golan in the past days to show their readiness to protect these strategic areas. Indeed, the arming of terrorists, like the recent missile attack on Homs province in central Syria, is done to balance the threat.

On the other hand, the Israeli regime, like the US, is challenged because of Ukraine war and verbal clashes occasionally erupt with Russian officials. Therrfore, Tel Aviv seeks to take revenge on Moscow in Syria and the targeting of Hmeimim base is for this reason.

Despite the fact that the kamikazes can prove effective on the battleground, the Russian advisers and resistance forces hold major capabilities enabling them to shoot down the suicide drones before impact. This time, like in the past, the Western-Israeli push to undermine Syria would meet its failure and perhaps this time the Syrian army with a lightening operation gets rid of the Idlib-based Takfiri terrorists forever to an end to over a decade of American crisis making.
