Alwaght- Iraq's influential cleric Moqtada al-Sadr announced on Friday that he will take part in October general election, reversing a decision last month to boycott the poll.
Sadr announced the reversal during a televised address Friday, saying "We will enter these elections with vigor and determination, in order to save Iraq from occupation and corruption."
Sadr's bloc is part of a coalition that holds the most seats in parliament now, and is likely to be one of the frontrunners in the vote, which was called early by Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi as a response to popular protests from 2019.
Al-Sadr said that he had received a paper on reforms in the country pledged by the political parties, calling him to return to the elections.
"We received the reform paper from politicians we trust, and we found it to be in accordance with our aspirations," al-Sadr said
