Alwaght- , Bahrain's main opposition bloc, al-Wefaq, urged the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) to investigate about the fate of former Bahraini MP and cleric, Sheikh Hassan Isa, who was arrested on 18 August 2015 under the pretext of funding suspects of terrorism.
According to Bahrain-based Alwefaq.net website, Sheikh Hassan Isa, prominent member of al-Wefaq National Islamic Society, has been held incommunicado since his arrest.
Sheikh Hassan has not been prosecuted since his arrest, Bahraini website says, adding He is held without any charges that is blatant violation of Bahraini domestic criminal law. Sheikh Hasan’s was denied the right for an attorney and the reasons for his arrest are still unknown.
Bahrain Mirror.com, also, reported that, Al-Wefaq said in a statement issued on August 22, 2015 that there is vagueness "overwhelming the situation of the prominent Bahraini figure, Sheikh Hassan Isa, who won the parliamentary elections with the highest percentage of votes in 2010, before the eruption of the pro-democracy protests and political crisis in 2011". "His lawyers were prevented from seeing him and attending his interrogation. The Authorities have not declared the reason for his arrest which took place upon his arrival at Bahrain International Airport with his family on August 18, 2015," the statement reads.
"The continued vagueness that overwhelms the fate of the religious scholar and former MP Sheikh Hassan Isa raises concerns and highlights the difficulty of the situation," added al-Wefaq, demanding his immediate release and urging concerned international parties to help reveal his fate.
Moreover, al-Wefaq painted the Interior Ministry’s statement about Sheikh Isa, as void under the provisions of the law. "Sheikh Hasan Isa is innocent from these accusations and the measures taken against him violate the national and international law," al-Wefaq's statement reads.
The language of the Interior Ministry’s statement does not go in line with the nature of its responsibility and lacks the basic requirements and measures stated in the constitution and national law.
"Al-Wefaq’s leaders and members adhere to its nonviolent methodology that has been clearly demonstrated through its stances, actions and statements and there is no need to prove this every single day. The attempts made to label al-Wefaq’s leaders and activities with anything other than this are absolute nonsense," the statement concluded.
