Two Killed in Friday Bomb Attack on Libya Mosque

Alwaght- Suspected terrorists have killed at least two people in a bombing attack on a mosque in Libya's eastern city of Benghazi.

According to sources, two suspected improvised explosive devices went off at the Saad Ben Obadah mosque during Friday prayers killing two worshippers and wounding several others.

Mutaz al-Mu'tri, Benghazi's security directorate spokesperson, said two bomb bags had been used in the attack.

Medical sources have confirmed that at least two people were killed and 55 were wounded with other putting the number of those injured at 129.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility but it bears the hallmarks of attacks usually carried out by Wahhabi Takfiri terrorist groups.

The attack comes just 17 days after a twin car explosion on Bait Radwan mosque in Salmani neighborhood which left 25 people dead and 51 others wounded. The incident also comes weeks after a double car bombing in Benghazi killed at least 35 people.

Forces loyal to Khalifa Haftar, a renegade general based in the east of the country, took control of Benghazi in 2017, after a three-year campaign against rival armed groups.

The fighting in Benghazi was part of a broader conflict that developed in Libya following US-led NATO intervention in the North African state after former ruler Muammar Gaddafi was ousted from power and killed in a during a popular uprising in 2011.

The North African nation has had competing governments aligned with rival military factions based in Tripoli and the east since 2014. Efforts by the UN to bring rival factions together have so far failed.
