Alwaght- Military forces in Afghanistan have killed at least 69 armed terrorists in operations across the war-ravaged country over the last 24 hours.
According to a Monday statement by the country's defense ministry, "Afghan National Defense and Security Forces launched offensives in different provinces, killing 69 armed insurgents, including nine ISIS fighters, and injured 39 others."
Four militants were captured during the raids, which were launched in Nangarhar, Kapisa, Paktia, Paktika, Khost, Logar, Kandahar, Zabul, Farah, Badghis, Kunduz, Faryab, Balkh, Takhar and Helmand provinces, the statement added.
The Afghan security forces have beefed up security operations against militants recently as war-weary Afghans have been witnessing a surge in attacks by Taliban fighters and ISIS affiliates across the country.
ISIS Takfiri terrorist group surfaced in Afghanistan in early 2015, aiming to capture and consolidate territory in the “Khorasan Province,” that would be loyal to a “caliphate”.
There have been clashes between ISIS and Taliban militants because Taliban’s ideology and objectives are nationalistic based as it seeks to grab power and rule Afghanistan. This is while ISIS fights to establish a so-called Caliphate encompassing many countries and entire regions under one ruler.
Afghanistan is experiencing increased incidents of insecurity despite the presence of US-led NATO forces in the country.
