ALWAGHT- Iranian Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei paid tribute to the late Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, praised Iran’s longstanding resistance against foreign pressure, and vowed that the country would not return to what he described as an era of submission.
Iranian Leader Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei paid tribute to Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah on the second anniversary of his death, praising his leadership and describing his role in elevating Lebanon’s standing. He also said Hezbollah’s resistance banner is now carried by Secretary-General Sheikh Naim Qassem.
Marking Sacred Defense Week, Ayatollah Khamenei recalled Iran’s 1980–1988 war with Iraq as a period of national unity and resistance against foreign influence. He linked the conflict to earlier episodes of Western involvement in Iran, including the nationalization of the oil industry and the US-backed 1953 coup.
Ayatollah Khamenei said the war, which he described as imposed on Iran, ultimately strengthened the Islamic Republic and became a defining element of its identity. He said the period left lessons of courage, faith, resistance, morality and national solidarity.
He also rejected any return to what he characterized as Iran’s former era of dependence and humiliation, emphasizing independence, dignity and national strength. Ayatollah Khamenei said Iran had emerged stronger from past conflicts and would continue to uphold its positions, including control over the Strait of Hormuz.
