Iran Warns IAEA Against Expecting Routine Nuclear Inspections Amid Security Threats

ALWAGHT- Iran has dismissed the IAEA’s call to resume routine inspections, arguing that maintaining normal safeguards procedures amid ongoing aggression is both “irrational” and “practically impossible.”

Iran’s Permanent Mission to the IAEA rejected calls for renewed routine inspections, arguing that normal safeguards activities are impractical while the country remains under continuous military threats and aggression. It noted that the IAEA itself withdrew its inspectors from Iran in June 2025 for safety reasons.

Tehran also criticized the agency for disclosing confidential information about the location and nature of Iran’s nuclear stockpiles without prior consent, warning that such disclosures could expose nuclear facilities to further attacks. It accused the IAEA Board of Governors of being politically influenced by the US and European states.

Iran blamed the collapse of the previous Cairo agreement on the confrontational approach of Britain, France, and Germany, while accusing the IAEA of applying double standards. It said neither the agency’s director general nor the Board had condemned attacks on Iran’s safeguarded nuclear facilities, despite repeated requests.

Meanwhile, the US, Britain, France, and Germany are backing a draft resolution seeking to refer Iran to the UN Security Council over alleged nuclear reporting violations. IAEA chief Rafael Grossi has urged Tehran to restore access, while Iran dismissed the Western initiative as counterproductive, saying safeguards verification could resume once the war ends.
