ALWAGHT- Iran's foreign minister said on Friday that Tehran is resolved to defend its national interests and prevent the United States from exploiting the Strait of Hormuz to undermine its security, during talks with his Russian counterpart.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov met on the sidelines of a Shanghai Cooperation Organisation meeting in Kyrgyzstan to discuss expanding bilateral cooperation in areas including politics, trade, transport, energy, and coordination through the SCO and BRICS. Both sides agreed to follow up on implementing previous agreements.
The two ministers also discussed regional security. Araghchi thanked Russia for condemning US and Israeli military actions against Iran, saying instability in the Strait of Hormuz stemmed from US actions while reaffirming Tehran's commitment to defending its national security. Lavrov reiterated Russia's condemnation of the military actions and expressed support for a regional security framework, offering Moscow's assistance.
