ALWAGHT- According to the head of the Iranian Space Agency, the Zafar, Paya, and Kowsar satellites are nearing the end of their technical phases and are expected to be launched within the next few months.
Hassan Salarieh, head of the Iranian Space Agency, underscored the rising importance of satellite data services during the “Space Technology for Sustainable Development” event in Tehran. He highlighted the private sector’s growing role in supplying satellite imagery and data for key national areas such as agriculture, water management, and environmental monitoring.
He noted progress in utilizing satellite data for applications including crop assessment, mine detection, and tracking dust storm hotspots. Salarieh also said Iran’s 10-year space program is being updated to better reflect current capabilities and needs, with the revised plan awaiting high-level approval.
Salarieh confirmed that the Zafar, Paya, and Kosar satellites are nearing launch readiness for early winter. He added that the Almas and Konaran space bases are almost operational, and emphasized ongoing international cooperation, including lunar projects with China and partnerships with ECO member states.
