Iran-Russia Defense Ties Align with International Law

ALWAGHT- Sergey Lavrov affirmed that collaboration between the Iranian and Russian defense sectors has been conducted entirely within the bounds of international law.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov highlighted that a growing number of countries in the Middle East are showing interest in Russian nuclear energy and technology, signaling Moscow’s expanding influence in the region’s energy sector. He noted that these developments reflect Russia’s growing role as a strategic partner in both civilian and potentially dual-use technologies.

Turning to the Gaza situation, Lavrov referenced the recent Gaza ceasefire agreement and the upcoming meeting in Egypt scheduled for Monday. He expressed cautious optimism about the talks, noting that while preparations are still ongoing, Moscow hopes the discussions will succeed in consolidating the truce and reducing hostilities in the region.

Regarding US proposals, Lavrov characterized former President Donald Trump’s plan as narrowly focused on the Gaza Strip. He stressed that any lasting peace must also address the status of the West Bank, which remains a critical and unresolved component of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Lavrov emphasized that durable peace in the region cannot be achieved without the establishment of an independent Palestinian state. He underlined that such a state must be created with the backing of the United Nations and supported by the international community, framing Palestinian statehood as essential to resolving the broader conflict in a just and sustainable manner.
