ALWAGHT- Hamas has firmly opposed any involvement of former British Prime Minister Tony Blair in Gaza’s administration after the newly declared ceasefire.
Senior Hamas official Basem Naim told Sky News that while the movement welcomes US efforts to end the two-year war, former British Prime Minister Tony Blair would not be accepted in any governance role in Gaza. Naim cited widespread resentment over Blair’s past actions in Afghanistan and Iraq, which caused the deaths of thousands of civilians.
Blair, who served as Middle East Quartet envoy from 2007 to 2015 without achieving significant progress in Israel-Palestine talks, is reportedly included in US President Donald Trump’s 20-point Gaza plan. The proposal envisions a transitional international authority, the “Board of Peace,” chaired by Trump and including Blair, to govern Gaza for up to five years, excluding both Hamas and the Palestinian Authority.
Hamas, along with Palestinian Islamic Jihad and the PFLP, reaffirmed that Gaza’s governance is an internal Palestinian matter and rejected any foreign oversight. Senior Hamas official Husam Badran condemned Blair’s inclusion as a “ominous sign,” calling him “the devil’s brother” and arguing he should face international courts for his role in the Iraq war.
