ALWAGHT- Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that he has had no contact with Steve Witkoff, the US Special Envoy for the Middle East.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has strongly denied recent reports claiming he spoke with US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff about restarting nuclear negotiations. Speaking to reporters on October 8, 2025, Araghchi stated, “No contact has taken place (with Witkoff),” dismissing the claims published by Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Jarida.
Al-Jarida had reported that Araghchi and Witkoff had recently communicated and agreed on the need to return to the negotiation table. Araghchi called these allegations baseless, noting that any correspondence between Iran and the US occurs directly or, when needed, through intermediaries.
This latest denial follows similar statements in September 2025, when Araghchi also rejected reports of secret talks, affirming that no direct dialogue had taken place. Nonetheless, both countries continue to show interest in exploring diplomatic channels to potentially resume nuclear negotiations.
Araghchi reiterated that Iran remains open to discussions, provided the US avoids “maximum pressure” tactics. The situation is ongoing, and further developments are expected as both nations navigate the complexities of their diplomatic relations.
