ALWAGHT- Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s foreign minister, criticized the US for hindering progress in diplomatic discussions, asserting that American obstructionism blocked outcomes during UN General Assembly talks.
During a weekly cabinet session on Wednesday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi briefed officials on his recent diplomatic efforts, including meetings with European representatives and the American delegation both before and during his trip to New York for the annual United Nations General Assembly session. He highlighted that Iran had approached the discussions with full flexibility, providing extensive explanations and clarifications to ensure that Tehran’s positions were clearly understood.
Araghchi emphasized that all necessary consultations and compromises were undertaken to reach a constructive outcome. “We made every effort and exercised all the flexibility required to make our case fully clear to the other parties,” he said, underlining Iran’s willingness to engage seriously in negotiations.
However, he noted that these efforts were ultimately unsuccessful. “As expected from the outset, this path did not yield results due to American obstructionism,” Araghchi stated, pointing to the US as the primary factor preventing progress. His remarks reflect ongoing tensions in diplomacy, as Iran continues to seek resolution on key international issues despite what it describes as deliberate US interference.
The minister’s comments come amid broader discussions on nuclear talks, sanctions relief, and regional security. Tehran has repeatedly stated that it is prepared to negotiate in good faith with all parties, but insists that any meaningful agreement must respect Iran’s sovereignty and interests. By highlighting US obstruction, Araghchi reinforced Iran’s narrative that external pressure, rather than Iran’s willingness to compromise, is the main obstacle to diplomatic breakthroughs.
