ALWAGHT- According to the United Nations office in Geneva, the number of women and girls starving in Gaza has reached one million as the region’s humanitarian situation continues to decline.
The United Nations has sounded the alarm over the deepening humanitarian crisis in Gaza, stating that one million women and girls are now starving. In a post on X, the UN called the situation “horrific” and “unacceptable,” urging immediate action, including the delivery of lifesaving aid, a ceasefire, and the release of all captives. Although Israel announced a partial pause in airstrikes to allow more aid in, humanitarian groups say the amount remains woefully inadequate.
According to global food security monitors, famine thresholds have already been surpassed in parts of Gaza, particularly in Gaza City. The situation is being described as a “worst-case scenario,” with July alone accounting for the majority of this year’s 74 recorded malnutrition-related deaths. Gaza’s Health Ministry reported a total of 175 starvation-related deaths to date, including 93 children, as aid remains scarce and hunger-related fatalities climb.
Despite Israeli denials of famine, rights groups accuse it of weaponizing starvation, citing severe restrictions on aid. Data from COGAT, the Israeli agency managing Gaza’s border, shows that from March to June only 56,000 tons of food were allowed in—less than 25% of the territory’s minimum needs—underscoring the urgent need for sustained and unrestricted humanitarian access.
