Iran to Maintain Uranium Enrichment, Says Foreign Minister

ALWAGHT- Iranian FM Abbas Araghchi declared that the country’s uranium enrichment program, which he lauded as a local triumph, is non-negotiable.

In an interview with Fox News, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi firmly stated that Iran will not abandon its uranium enrichment program, describing it as a significant scientific and national achievement. He questioned why Iran should import enriched uranium when it has the capability to produce it independently, emphasizing the value of self-reliance and national pride in maintaining the program.

Addressing concerns about enrichment levels, Araghchi denied claims that Iran had enriched uranium to 90%, stating that enrichment has primarily remained below 5% for power plant fuel and up to 20% for the Tehran Research Reactor. He acknowledged a temporary increase to 60% following sabotage at Iran’s nuclear facilities but insisted that Iran would lower enrichment levels again if a nuclear agreement were reached.

Araghchi also confirmed that recent Israeli and US military strikes caused severe damage to some nuclear facilities, temporarily halting operations. However, he stressed that Iran’s enrichment program would continue due to its importance to national identity and scientific progress. He defended Iran’s decision to build underground nuclear sites, citing persistent threats from the US and Israel, and called for a diplomatic solution to the nuclear standoff.
