ALWAGHT- US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that the mineral deal between the US and Ukraine could be signed this week.
"We are very, very close... It could even be signed as early as this week," US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told Bloomberg, commenting on the potential deal.
On April 11 and 12, US and Ukrainian representatives held technical talks to finalize the terms of the agreement regarding Ukraine’s natural resources. Ukrainian Prime Minister Denis Shmygal later confirmed that the discussions were ongoing, according to TASS.
The deal had previously stalled due to a verbal clash between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and US President Donald Trump on February 28. On March 27, Ukraine received a revised offer that was more demanding, requiring Ukraine’s natural resource revenues to be used as repayment for the $120 billion in aid provided by the US. The deal also includes the creation of an investment fund for Ukraine’s recovery, which the US will oversee. Ukrainian officials have indicated they are still reviewing the terms, with Zelensky expressing dissatisfaction over the changes to the original agreement.
