Alwaght- Thousands of militants are getting ready to attack eastern part Aleppo, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Thursday.
Aleppo, Syria’s second largest city, has been divided since 2012 between government forces in the west and foreign-backed terrorists in the east, making it a frontline battleground.
"The most serious situation in Syria is still around Aleppo," the diplomat said. "Jihadists attacking from southwest continue their attempts to force a corridor towards eastern neighborhoods of the city," she went on.
Militants have several times attempted to break Syrian army’s siege on eastern part of Aleppo to provide entrapped terrorists with aid and fighters. Syrian army has every time foiled their attacks.
"According to different estimates, up to 6,000 gunmen are engaged in the operation, the tactical direction carried out by Jabhat Fateh al-Sham (former Jabhat al-Nusra) through the central headquarters," she said.
The diplomat drew attention to close coordination of al-Nusra Front terrorists with other anti-governmental units in Hama and the Damask region. "Everywhere, terrorists are facing resolute rebuff," Zakharova said.
