ISIS terrorist group captured a city in the African country of Somalia

Alwaght- ISIS terrorist group captured a city in the African country of Somalia, al-Masdar news site reported on Wednesday.

The report says ISIS terrorists captured Qandala port in the county’s northern Puntland region after months of reports that the group seeks to find a new stronghold after recent defeats in Iraq and Syria.

The port town is located on the imperative waterway of the Aden Gulf where nearly 20% of the world's trade passes through to come or from the Suez Canal.

The report quotes some unnamed ground sources as saying that 50 terrorist attacked the city and raised the ISIS flags after taking control.

The tow has a population of only 20,000 people and is considered one of the poorest towns in the country that is hit hard by poverty.

This is the first push by ISIS in the war stricken country, where it has only operated cells. Somalia has been dominated by the al-Qaeda aligned al-Shabab terrorist group.

The ISIS group has suffered heavy defeats in Iraq and Syria where the Iraqi national army is on the eighth day of its comprehensive operation to liberate their last stronghold of Mosul.

There have been reports that the terrorists are trying to compensate such defeats by increasing their presence and activities in African countries including Somalia and Libya
