Alwaght- two human rights activists were stopped by Bahraini authorities when trying to leave the country on Saturday August 27, 2016, local media reported.
The activists were headed to Saudi Arabia through King Fahd Causeway when authorities stopped them claiming an exit ban has been issued on them by the Bahraini Public Prosecution.
Ahmad al-Saffar and Siham al-Sayegh, members of the European-Bahraini Organization for Human Rights were stopped on gateways apparently due to their activities to protest detentions of Bahraini opposition members.
Manama has initiated a new round of suppression and detention against pro-democracy groups in the country through mass detention of opposition figures and preventing activists from leaving the country, especially in last June when the UN Human Rights Council was to convene a session in Geneva. A move largely condemned by international figures and organizations including UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-Moon and the Americans for Democracy.
