Tens Killed as Twin Explosions Hit Afghan Police Covey

Alwaght- Suicide bombers have targeted an Afghan police convoy on Thursday when they were on their way from Wardak province to Kabul, killing at least 40 and injuring many more.

According to officials, the incident took place in Qala-e-Haidar Khan village in Company area in Kabul city, Afghanistan-based Tolonews reported.

The convoy transported newly graduated police officers from Wardak to Kabul, according to security officials.

The bombing was claimed by the Taliban and follows an attack on a bus just over a week ago that killed 14 people.

The dead included Nepali security guards working for the Canadian embassy.

Twin explosions came after afghan security forces carried out a military operation in Nuristan province on Wednesday killing about 73 Taliban militants.

According to the statement released by Afghanistan 201 Selab Military Corps, 26 other insurgents were wounded in the operation.

The operation was conducted in Kamdish district when dozens Taliban fighters attacked the security forces' outpost in the area, the statement said.

The statement added that foreign insurgents were among the death militants in the operation.

Air Force supported the ground forces in the battle, the statement said.
