Alwaght- Morocco’s security services dismantled, on Thursday in the eastern cities of Oujda and Tendrara, a ten-member terror cell related to the ISIS Takfiri terrorist group.
Investigations showed that the suspects, including an Algerian national living illegally in Morocco, have monitored a large shopping center in Oujda in order to commit a robbery using knives, hoods and sophisticated communication devices, to raise funds for terrorist projects in the Kingdom, in accordance with ISIS agenda, the Interior Ministry pointed out in a statement.
Investigations revealed that the members of this terrorist cell, who held secret meetings in a “safe house” in Oujda, assaulted citizens and dispossessed them of their property, which is a serious threat and a breach to security and stability of the kingdom, the statement said.
The suspects will be brought before justice after the completion of investigations conducted under the competent public prosecutor’s office.
In the same region last week, Moroccan security services arrested an Italian man wanted for plotting terror attacks in the North African country, following an order issued by ISIS.
The Italian-ISIS terror member was captured last week at the airport of the Moroccan Eastern city of Oujda, near the Algerian border.
According to Morocco’s Interior Ministry, the captured man had been “brainwashed” by the fanatic ISIS group and had unsuccessfully tried to join the organization’s training camps back in 2014.
Last month, an ISIS gang who were hatching a ‘dangerous’ plot to attack tourists in Morocco have been thwarted.
Morocco ‘s Interior Ministry says authorities have arrested a Chadian national who was plotting the attacks in the northern city of Tangiers.
Morocco, as with many countries in a region, has an uneven demographic landscape. At least 70% of the population is under the age of 30, coupled with high youth unemployment, which stands at 21.4%.
In other words, there is plenty of fertile ground for terror recruiters to coax disillusioned young men, and women, into pursuing Takfiri terrorism activities.
