Iraqi FM Praises Hezbollah in Arab League Summit as Saudi Delegation Walks Out

Alwaght- Iraqi Foreign Minister, Ibrahim al-Ja’afari, praised Hezbollah an Arab League meeting on Friday prompting a Saudi regime delegation to walk out of the session.

Iraqi media reported that Ja’afari defended Hezbollah and Iraqi Popular Mobilization forces (PMF) who are fighting against ISIS Takfiri terrorist group.

“PMF and Hezbollah preserved the dignity of the Arabs and whoever accuses them of terrorism they are themselves terrorists.”

The Iraqi FM rejected attempts to distort the image of Hezbollah, saying that the party's Secretary-General Sayyed Hasan Nasrallah "is an Arab hero.

Following Ja’afari’s remarks, the Saudi delegation walked out of the meeting, al-Iraqiyyah TV quoted an official at the foreign ministry as saying.

Lebanon joined Iraq in rejecting a decision by fellow Arab League members to declare Lebanon's Hezbollah resistance movement a "terrorist" group.

"The resolution of the League's council (of foreign ministers) includes the designation of Hezbollah as a terrorist group," the body said in a statement read out at a news conference on Friday by Bahraini diplomat Wahid Mubarak Sayar.

Lebanon and Iraq expressed "reservations" about the decision which was approved nearly by all members of the pan-Arab body.

The decision came after the Saudi-led [Persian] Gulf Cooperation Council officially added Hezbollah and all groups affiliated to its so-called list of “terrorist” organizations on March 2.

The [P] GCC comprises Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Bahrain and Kuwait.

On Sunday a top Iranian military commander said the decision by the [Persian] Gulf Arab states to brand Lebanon’s resistance movement Hezbollah as a terrorist organization has been ordered by the Israeli regime and enemies of Islam.

Iranian Armed Forces Chief of Staff Major General Hassan Firouzabadi said that the Arab bloc’s blacklisting Hezbollah as a terrorist body was a strategic mistake and a very hasty and impulsive measure which runs counter to the interests of Muslim nations.

"Hezbollah is the son of the Lebanese nation," he said, adding that the movement has done a lot for the Arab country.
