3 Young US Muslims Murdered in Indiana

3 Young US Muslims Murdered in Indiana

Alwaght-Three young US Muslim men were found murdered in Fort Wayne, Indiana, this week in what has been termed as an "execution-style" killing.

Authorities say they found the bodies of Fort Wayne residents Mohamedtaha Omar, 23, Adam K. Mekki, 20, and Muhannad A. Tairab, 17, inside a local home on Wednesday. Each of them was shot multiple times.

Local sources say the home had become a known spot where young members of the local African diaspora gathered to due to an "absentee ownership situation. The murdered men were Muslims of Chadian and Sudanese origin.

The killings come amid a growing wave of anti-Muslim sentiment in the US, including numerous acts of violence directed against Muslim Americans.

In February 2015, a man named Craig Stephen Hicks was arrested for the murder of three Muslim students at the University of North Carolina's Chapel Hill campus. One of the victim's families later launched an educational campaign to promote equitable treatment of Muslims in the US.

Anti-Islam rhetoric has also hit the US presidential campaigns of 2016, with leading Republican candidate Donald Trump proposing a "total and complete shutdown of Muslims" entering the US.

Since the November 13 attacks in Paris, hate crimes against Muslims have gone up threefold in the US, relative to the monthly average of 12.6 in previous years.

Council on American-Islamic Relations, CAIR, America's largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization is engaged in efforts to enhance the understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties and empower American Muslims as Islamophobia continues unabated in the country.
