Trump, Zelensky to Hold Meeting in Washington on Monday

ALWAGHT- Zelensky said his discussions with Trump will center on practical measures to achieve peace, after a lengthy call that also included senior European and NATO leaders.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that he will travel to Washington on Monday for talks with US President Donald Trump focused on “ending the killing and the war.” The visit follows a lengthy call in which Trump briefed Zelensky and European leaders on his recent Alaska summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Zelensky described his discussion with Trump as “long and substantive,” beginning privately before key European and NATO leaders joined. He emphasized Ukraine’s readiness for a trilateral meeting with both Trump and Putin, though Moscow has resisted the format. The Washington talks come just three days after the Trump–Putin summit, which ended without a ceasefire.

According to European officials, Trump’s call lasted over an hour and included leaders from the UK, France, Germany, NATO, and the European Commission. Afterward, European leaders held a separate call to coordinate their next steps on Ukraine. The White House confirmed that Trump spoke privately with Zelensky before widening the call to include Europe.

Meanwhile, Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev said one key outcome of the Alaska summit was restoring a mechanism for high-level US–Russia talks “without ultimatums or threats.” He noted that Trump refrained from escalating pressure on Moscow and that both Washington and Moscow placed responsibility for progress on Kiev and Europe, while Putin personally outlined Russia’s conditions for ending the conflict.
