Iran Aims for Lasting Ceasefire in Syria: Deputy FM

Alwaght-Iran has said it will do its utmost to help fight terrorism and establish lasting ceasefire in Syria.
Speaking on Tuesday, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian added that Iran will also facilitate delivery of humanitarian aid and hold all-embracing Syrian talks under the supervision of the United Nations.
Amir-Abdollahian further said Iran is confident that the Syrian government would remain committed to the ceasefire.
“However, It is not clear that armed groups linked to known terrorist groups would observe the ceasefire because armed groups linked to terrorists benefit from chaos in Syria,” the Iranian diplomat added.
The Syrian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday that the government accepts the terms of a ceasefire deal announced by the United States and Russia on Monday.
The Syrian government also pledged to coordinate with Russia to decide which groups and areas would be included in the "cessation of hostilities" plan, SANA news agency reported, citing sources in the Syrian Foreign Ministry.
Damascus also stressed that military operations against ISIS, Al Nusra Front and other terrorist organizations linked to it, and Al Qaeda should continue.
It added that the Syrian government accepts the deal on the basis that military efforts against ISIS Takfiri terrorists and the al-Qaeda-linked al-Nusra Front group continue.
Meanwhile a coordination center to reconcile the warring parties in Syria has started its work at the Khmeimin airbase near Latakia, Russia's Defense Ministry says. Moscow has also handed over the hotline contact to the US, as required by the joint plan to monitor the truce.
It also plans to help establish contacts between the Syrian government and the opposition, the Defense Ministry’s spokesman, Major General Igor Konashenkov, said in a statement Tuesday.
The center will “render the maximum assistance” to everyone who applies to it, Konashenkov said. This however excludes ISIS and Al-Nusra Front terrorist groups as well as other terrorist groups designated by the UN Security Council.
On Monday, the US and Russia reached an agreement on a Syrian nationwide ceasefire plan and adopted “Terms for a Cessation of Hostilities in Syria” – a document that outlines major aspects of the future truce.
According to the plan, the ceasefire is due to begin Thursday at 22:00 GMT, and all the parties should voice their agreement by 10:00 GMT.
