ALWAGHT- IRGC official Yadollah Javani warns submarine cables in Strait of Hormuz could be endangered by attacks on Iranian infrastructure.
Senior IRGC commander Brigadier General Yadollah Javani warned that undersea fiber-optic cables in the Strait of Hormuz could be endangered if Iranian infrastructure is attacked. Meanwhile, Major General Ali Abdollahi, chief of staff of Iran’s Armed Forces, vowed a forceful response to any aggression, saying adversaries would regret any reckless action against the country.
IRGC spokesperson Brigadier General Hossein Mohebbi said the Strait of Hormuz was completely closed to US and Israeli vessels, rejecting US claims that oil shipments were continuing through the waterway. He also asserted that Iranian forces could strike US warships and other naval vessels, adding that US warships were staying about 700 kilometers away from the strait.
Beyond its strategic importance for global energy supplies, the Strait of Hormuz hosts a network of undersea cables carrying a significant share of regional internet traffic and supporting international communications, financial transactions and cloud services. Any disruption could affect connectivity across the Gulf and beyond, including India’s digital economy, online services and technology industries.
