ALWAGHT- Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Saeed Khatibzadeh said Tehran insists that Lebanon be included in any comprehensive regional agreement, arguing that conflicts across the region are interconnected. In an interview, he reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to diplomacy and said negotiations must be based on mutual respect and adherence to commitments. He also described his meetings with Lebanese officials as constructive.
Khatibzadeh accused the United States and Israel of violating the Islamabad memorandum through attacks on Iran and Lebanon, warning that continued fighting on any front would prevent a lasting regional settlement. He called on Washington to ensure Israel fulfills its obligations and defended Iran’s relationship with Hezbollah, describing the movement as a Lebanese response to occupation and aggression.
Addressing relations with Washington, the Iranian diplomat rejected US pressure and reiterated Tehran’s readiness for balanced negotiations, including discussions on its nuclear program while preserving its right to peaceful nuclear energy. He also referred to Iran’s proposal for a temporary, seven-day reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, while warning that Tehran remained prepared to defend itself against further military action.
Khatibzadeh also urged neighboring countries not to allow their territories to be used for attacks against Iran and called for an immediate ceasefire in Yemen and an end to the Saudi blockade. He warned of severe shortages of food and medicine facing Yemenis, emphasizing the need to protect civilians and restore access to essential supplies.
