ALWAGHT- Yemen’s armed forces said they had shot down a Saudi reconnaissance drone over the western province of Ta’izz, amid intensified fighting and exchanges of fire across several parts of the region.
Yemeni Armed Forces spokesman Brig. Gen. Yahya Saree said Yemeni forces shot down a Saudi-operated Wing Loong II reconnaissance drone over Ta’izz’s Maqbanah district while it was carrying out what he described as a “hostile mission.”
The downing came hours after Yemeni forces reported a missile strike targeting a meeting of commanders of Saudi-backed forces in Yemen. Saree said the attack used a Yemeni-made precision ballistic missile.
Tensions have intensified across Ta’izz, with reports of drone attacks, artillery exchanges and clashes in several areas. The developments come amid broader tensions between Yemen and Saudi Arabia, including Sana’a’s declared maritime blockade and subsequent attacks targeting Saudi-linked vessels in the Red Sea.
