Only Iran, Oman Have Authority over Strait of Hormuz

ALWAGHT- An informed political source rejected recent media reports about the future management of the Strait of Hormuz, stressing that only Iran and Oman have the authority to make decisions regarding the strategic waterway.

An informed political source said the Strait of Hormuz lies within the territorial and internal waters of Iran and Oman, meaning that only the two countries have the authority to decide its future management. The source added that Qatar’s role in the Iran-Oman talks is limited to mediation and facilitating regional consultations.

A separate Iranian source said Tehran remains committed to its plans for managing the Strait of Hormuz despite US threats and what it described as a media disinformation campaign. The source also dismissed reports of disagreements between Iran’s negotiating team and its armed forces.

The source further claimed that the Iran-US Memorandum of Understanding stipulates the Strait’s reopening under arrangements determined by Iran, ruling out any alternative framework. It also warned that continued pressure and threats against Iran could undermine negotiations and prospects for a final agreement.
