Hamas Labels Abuse of Palestinian Women Detainees a ‘War Crime’

ALWAGHT- Hamas has condemned the rising levels of torture, abuse, and systematic mistreatment inflicted on Palestinian women held in Israeli prisons, describing the practices as a "war crime" and demanding immediate action from the international community.

Hamas has condemned Israel's escalating violations against Palestinian women detainees, citing physical and psychological torture, solitary confinement, medical deprivation, and denial of basic human rights as clear breaches of international law, including the Fourth Geneva Convention. According to a statement cited by the Shehab news agency, 87 Palestinian women—including pregnant women, sick detainees, and minors—remain imprisoned under harsh conditions lacking adequate care. Hamas described repeated raids, humiliating inspections, and administrative detention without charges as exposing the "fascist" nature of the Israeli regime, while also accusing Israel of escalating "organized terrorism" through the prosecution of women for their social media activities.

The group has called on the UN, human rights organizations, and the International Committee of the Red Cross to document the alleged abuses, secure the release of all Palestinian women prisoners, and prosecute Israeli officials. The statement follows reports from the Palestinian Prisoners’ Affairs Media Office detailing extensive repression at Damon Prison throughout April, including over ten suppression operations involving violent raids, beatings, shackling, solitary confinement, and forced transfers.
