Putin, Trump Discuss Iran and Persian Gulf in Lengthy Conversation

ALWAGHT- A senior Kremlin aide confirmed that Putin and Trump held an extensive phone call on Wednesday, discussing Iran, the Persian Gulf, and the war in Ukraine.

Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov confirmed that Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump held a phone call lasting over an hour and a half. During the conversation, Putin expressed support for Trump regarding the recent assassination attempt on his life, which the Russian leader strongly condemned. On the situation surrounding Iran, Trump provided his assessment of the completed phase of military confrontation, while Putin characterized Trump's decision to extend the ceasefire with Iran as "correct," stating it would help stabilize the region. Moscow also views any potential US ground operation against Iran as "dangerous."

Regarding the Ukraine war, Putin informed Trump that the objectives of Russia's "special military operation" will be achieved regardless of circumstances, though he also indicated readiness to declare a ceasefire by Victory Day. In response, Trump expressed belief that an agreement to end the conflict is near, emphasizing the importance of a swift cessation of hostilities and noting that his trusted representatives would continue contacts with both Moscow and Kyiv. Ushakov added that Putin directly informed Trump of Kyiv's shift toward what Russia describes as "terrorist methods," citing attacks on civilian targets within Russian territory.
