ALWAGHT- At the request of Iran's judiciary chief, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has approved the pardon or sentence reduction of over 2,000 convicts.
On Tuesday, responding to a request from Judiciary Chief Gholamhossein Mohseni-Ejei, Ayatollah Khamenei approved clemency for 2,108 individuals convicted in various courts.
The judiciary chief’s letter cited the occasion of the Shabaniyeh religious holidays and the 47th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution. This aligns with the tradition where the judiciary, on major national and religious occasions, petitions the Leader to pardon or reduce sentences for eligible convicts under the law.
