ALWAGHT- Iran has firmly rejected US accusations of interference in regional affairs, calling them baseless and politically motivated during a UN Security Council session.
Iran’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, dismissed US envoy Michael Waltz’s allegations of Iranian interference, affirming that Iran’s foreign policy is rooted in the UN Charter and principles of sovereignty and non-interference. He argued that it is the United States’ unlawful military presence and destabilizing actions that have fueled tensions and conflict across West Asia, not Iran.
Iravani accused Washington of fabricating the “false narrative of Iranian proxies” to deflect attention from what he described as the real source of instability — US policies and its unwavering support for Israel. He condemned the United States for obstructing the UN Security Council’s responsibilities, claiming this complicity has enabled Israel’s continued aggression and crimes against Palestinians.
The ambassador denounced Israel’s actions in Gaza as a “genocidal war of extermination,” citing over 68,000 deaths and massive destruction of infrastructure, including hospitals and schools. He said these atrocities constitute clear violations of international humanitarian law, referencing the International Court of Justice’s opinion condemning Israel’s obstruction of aid and attacks on UN personnel. He also highlighted Israeli military operations beyond Gaza — in Syria, Lebanon, and the Golan Heights — and accused Israel of targeting Iranian territory.
Iravani called on the UN Security Council to take decisive action against Israel and end its “paralysis” caused by US obstruction. He reiterated Iran’s support for a permanent ceasefire, humanitarian access, and recognition of Palestinian statehood with Al-Quds al-Sharif as its capital. Rejecting US accusations, he emphasized Iran’s commitment to international law, sovereignty, and genuine dialogue to address the root causes of regional instability.
