Top Hamas Figure: Netanyahu Preventing Breakthrough on Gaza Ceasefire Deal

ALWAGHT- Mahmoud Mardawi, a senior Hamas leader, declared that a full ceasefire deal could be within reach, but claimed Netanyahu is deliberately undermining talks and pushing forward with the Gaza offensive.

Senior Hamas official Mahmoud Mardawi said that a comprehensive ceasefire deal for Gaza is possible, but accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of deliberately blocking progress to serve his own political interests. He claimed Netanyahu has repeatedly stalled negotiations, ignored proposals from Egyptian and Qatari mediators supported by the US, and refused to send a negotiating team, while Hamas has accepted the proposals without reservations.

Mardawi stressed that Hamas does not oppose any plan that would end Israeli attacks, secure the release of captives through a prisoner exchange, allow humanitarian aid into Gaza, and begin reconstruction. He accused Netanyahu of thwarting ceasefire efforts at least five times, pointing to reports from Israeli media and even acknowledgment from the US State Department that Netanyahu is preventing an agreement and prolonging the conflict.

He further charged that Israel is using starvation as a weapon, blocking aid convoys, bombing food and water supplies, and targeting civilians seeking assistance. The UN has confirmed famine conditions in Gaza, which Mardawi described as evidence of deliberate genocide. He urged the international community to move beyond reports and take concrete action to stop the crisis, warning that the situation is a critical test of global humanity.
