ALWAGHT- Senior diplomats from Iran and Afghanistan discussed bilateral ties and recent regional developments, including the crisis in Gaza.
In a phone call on Sunday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and the Taliban’s acting foreign minister, Amir Khan Muttaqi, discussed key bilateral and regional issues.
Araghchi emphasized the importance of convening a ministerial meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to explore solutions to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. He also reiterated Iran’s commitment to ensuring the respectful and rights-based repatriation of Afghan refugees.
Muttaqi, in turn, called for a stronger and more responsible response from Islamic countries to the worsening situation in Gaza. He urged an immediate end to the suffering of Palestinians and the ongoing acts of genocide. The Afghan minister also voiced concern over the refugee return process, stressing the importance of preserving the dignity of Afghan nationals.
