ALWAGHT- The United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), led by President Nicolás Maduro, has emerged victorious in the nation’s elections, winning a dominant 82% of legislative seats and nearly all governor races.
Preliminary results from Venezuela’s National Electoral Council (CNE) show that President Nicolás Maduro’s United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) and its allies secured a sweeping victory in the latest elections, winning 82.68% of the votes for National Assembly seats. The PSUV claimed 40 of the 50 national-list seats, reinforcing its parliamentary dominance and maintaining control over key institutions like the attorney general’s office and the judiciary.
Voter turnout stood at 42.66%, with around 9.12 million of the 21.4 million registered voters participating. CNE officials stated that the process was peaceful and transparent, with more than 15,700 polling centers operating securely. Elvis Amoroso, CNE president, praised the Venezuelan people's commitment to a calm and orderly election, echoing remarks from Maduro, who called the vote a victory against “violence and fascism.”
Despite calls from opposition leader María Corina Machado to boycott the vote, Maduro dismissed such efforts, stating that political ground would be filled by those who show up. The elections saw over 6,600 candidates from 54 political parties compete for 285 National Assembly seats, 260 regional legislator positions, and 24 governorships, marking a significant reaffirmation of the ruling party's grip on Venezuelan politics.
