ALWAGHT- Iran's UN envoy, Amir Saeid Iravani, firmly rejected French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot’s claim that Iran is close to acquiring nuclear weapons, calling the accusation baseless and a politically reckless move.
Iran’s UN Ambassador, Amir Saeid Iravani, strongly rejected recent remarks by French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot, who claimed Iran is close to developing nuclear weapons. Iran called the accusation baseless, politically motivated, and a distortion of its rights under international law. The ambassador emphasized Iran's commitment to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) and noted that the IAEA continues to verify the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear activities.
He defended Iran’s reduction of its JCPOA commitments as a lawful and measured response to the US withdrawal from the deal and the failure of European partners to uphold their obligations. Iran stressed that its actions were transparent and in line with the provisions of the agreement, not a sign of pursuing nuclear weapons.
Iran also condemned France’s threat to reimpose sanctions as a form of coercion and a violation of the UN Charter. The envoy criticized France’s double standards on nuclear issues, pointing to its own expanding nuclear arsenal and silence on Israel’s undeclared program. He concluded by reaffirming Iran’s commitment to diplomacy, calling for respect and dialogue instead of pressure and threats.
