ALWAGHT- The UN's Palestine envoy has cautioned America's new ambassador to the occupied territories that Israel's obstruction of Gaza aid amounts to a war crime.
For 50 days, Israel has blocked food, medicine, and essential supplies from entering Gaza, despite warnings from aid organizations of an impending famine. The territory, already devastated by war, now faces a dire humanitarian crisis as basic necessities remain out of reach for its starving population.
Michael Huckabee, the US ambassador to Tel Aviv, rejected calls to pressure Israel to allow aid, instead demanding Hamas release Israeli captives first. The UN’s Francesca Albanese swiftly condemned his remarks, citing international law that classifies deliberate starvation as a war crime. She warned that obstructing aid worsens Gaza’s destruction and harms all parties involved.
Since breaking a two-month truce on March 18, Israel’s renewed military campaign has killed nearly 1,500 Palestinians and injured over 3,400, according to Gaza’s health ministry. The ongoing assault, coupled with the aid blockade, has deepened the humanitarian disaster, with no end in sight to the suffering.
