ALWAGHT- At least seven people were killed and several others injured when Israeli military forces attacked a residential neighborhood in Syria’s southwestern Dara’a province. This marks the latest act of aggression against the Arab nation since the fall of President Bashar al-Assad’s government.
Israeli forces shelled the village of Kuwaya in Syria’s southwestern Dara’a province, killing several people and causing widespread fear among residents. Reports suggest Israeli ground troops are active in the area, with local journalist Omar al-Hariri rejecting Israeli claims of retaliatory fire, stating instead that the attack began with an attempt to arrest local youth. Following the assault, Israeli forces ordered all villagers to evacuate.
In addition to the attack in Dara’a, Israeli warplanes struck two former Syrian military bases in the Homs province, now controlled by the country’s new authorities. The airstrikes targeted Palmyra Military Airport and Tiyas Air Base, just days after similar attacks. There were no immediate reports of casualties from these strikes.
Since the overthrow of President Bashar al-Assad’s government in December 2024, Israel has intensified military operations, targeting former Syrian army installations. Israel has been widely criticized for abandoning the 1974 ceasefire agreement and exploiting Syria’s instability for territorial gains. The United Nations has condemned Israel’s repeated violations of Syrian sovereignty and breaches of the ceasefire buffer zone.
